Acupuncture

Why Acupuncture?

Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine have been a complete medical system for over 2,500 years. WHY?
Because it works!
How well it works is dependent, however, on the practitioner's skills, training, and experience.
What is Acupuncture and how does it work?
Our bodies carry out millions of miraculous functions to keep us alive and healthy. If we become unhealthy or injured, then through acupuncture the practitioner is able to interact the body’s daily functioning and give it some specific messages that are required to create a greater shift in its standard activities and therefore bring it back to health. Say for example, the practitioner diagnoses excess heat in the stomach, then a specific message can be given through the complex system of channels to drain this heat and cause it to exit the body. There are many many different ways that a practitioner can access these channels to cause the desired change, and if they get the code right, then instantaneous benefits can be felt by the patient.
Our Style of Acupuncture
Throughout Asia and the world there are many different styles of acupuncture. Just as the world of martial arts has a massive range of styles and techniques, so does acupuncture. Scott has studied with some of the world’s best living masters in order to offer the following styles of acupuncture:
  • Master Tung's style of over 1,500 years family lineage, unique acupuncture points and effectiveness only recently taught in the West (Learnt through Dr Wei Chieh Young).
  • Dr Wan’s style of single needle modified Wang Le-Ting technique (learnt through Dr Alex Liew).
  • Dr Richard Tan’s balance, 12 magic, seasonal, and correspondence systems.
  • Korean Hand Acupuncture.
  • Modern Scalp Acupuncture based on both traditional and neurosurgery principles.
  • Specialist traditional Japanese and Chinese blood letting techniques (only used on certain patients).
Is all Acupuncture created equal?
  • Results available to a patient from an acupuncture treatment vary as much as the performance available to a driver from an old Commodore to a new Ferrari.
  • The modern style of acupuncture taught in Australian, Chinese, and most universities of the world is a standardised form of various traditional acupuncture systems.
  • How do you know if you are choosing a practitioner with a solid and effective style of acupuncture? The practitioner should have:
  • Been directly taught a specific system from one or more traditional styles and be proud to tell everyone exactly who they have studied with.
  • Have years of experience implementing this style on all types of cases.
  • Have read widely from the classic works of Chinese medicine to modern scientific investigation.
  • Be continually searching out better techniques and improving themselves.
  • Be qualified in the sister science of Chinese Herbal Medicine.
  • Be a person who truly cares about you and your wellbeing and who listens to you.
At the Barefoot Doctor clinic, Buderim Sunshine Coast Qld, Scott has strived for many years to offer the above qualities to his patients and is passionate to further refine his art. Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine, Scott Smallwood Sunshine Coast, Buderim Qld 4556
